Sammy Dow – Planning Application – Information for Objections

Rear Elevation14

If you want to object to the Spirit Pub Company creating a new way in and out of Sammy Dow’s, a new gate into the lanes, a raised outside deck and a large new window looking out over the back of Nithsdale Road, Moray Place and Regent Park Square , you need to do it soon…

The last date for objections to be in is Friday the 25th of April 2014 – unless you got a letter from the council about the application, in which case it is the 29th of April 2014.

The proposed deck and stairs leading to a new door into the back of the pub, will create noise and disturbance for anyone in the first block of Moray Place, the homes at the end of Regent Park Square and the homes nearby in Nithsdale Road.  The music will be much louder with open doors and windows…   It is also likely that footfall will increase in the lanes across much of Strathbungo, as people take shortcuts to and from this new entrance and exit.

It’s vital that as many people as possible object to the plans so, if you would like some ideas and pointers, please download the document below.  Feel free to adapt, add, subtract and personalise it.

    Hi,

The note you posted through my door today states 25th of May 2013, can you advise which is correct? I personally do not have a problem with a beer garden or fire escape. We live in a city and I am used to noise and create some myself which I don’t think plenty of people realise how much noise their children make in the area also. We do have to keep in mind that the license for that pub will still be for midnight. Surely the lanes are meant to be enjoyed by anyone wishing to travel through them? Is that not the point of keeping the old style cobble in this area? What I do not appreciate however is people being loud when leaving and causing a nuisance but I do not see how this is going to be much different from what it is just now at that end of my road, just they will be able to leave quicker via 2 methods rather than 1.

The date for members of the public to object by is Friday the 25th April.
If you have been informed by letter by the city council about the application, you have until the 29th of April.
    Apologies for any confusion.

I appreciate you taking the time to think about the issue. I hope that the development does not take place because it is on the quiet side of people’s homes and noise from live bands playing will be much worse if there is a door or window open right beside the stage.

Yes the city is noisy, but a certain level of anonymous background noise is much easier to live with than hearing very specific music and activity from a pub within yards of where you are trying to sleep. The other problem is having people standing smoking on a raised deck being able to look into your home and garden all day and all evening.
