I’ve recently noticed a lot of activity around the bins in the back lane of Queen Square. Groups of men seem to be peering into the bins and removing things on a regular basis and I wondered if we need to do anything about it?

I am just old enough to remember doorstep milk deliveries as a child. In particular there was my first attempt at catching a burglar with a tripwire and car hubcap, which only served to give the milkman a near heart attack the next morning. I’ve never quite recovered from the guilt.
Well, apparently, milkmen are back. McQueens Dairies have recently started a milk delivery service in the Strathbungo area. They currently deliver around 7am on Mondays and Thursdays, with the usual range, including organic milk.
If you are interested in this service, you can contact McQueens on 0141 332 9608 or at info@mcqueensdairies.co.uk. Their website (www.mcqueensdairies.co.uk) needs a bit of work though.
I have no financial interest in McQueens, and as the BBC never tires of saying “There are other milk delivery options available.” I understand a more local dairy, Youngs Dairy of G42 also deliver in the area, and have done so for some years. I have no information on their service but they can be contacted on 0141 632 2578.
Mind you, neither of them are listed as delivering to Strathbungo at www.findmeamilkman.net, and nor is anyone else.
So, as with any local community service like this, use it or lose it. Just look out for Humphrey (now I am showing my age).

Those of us who write for the blog love any sort of feedback. We know that a couple of hundred people log on every day to one section of the blog or another, but we rarely receive any feedback on what we write. If you think it is rubbish or off the mark or banal or offensive do say so (though if we disagree with you we’ll tell you). 
And similarly if you like something do indicate as such. We are not looking for ego boosts, but rather some indication of what it is folk in Strathbungo want to see in a blog. Do you want personal musings or more fact based content? Do you want opinionated pieces or something a little more toned down. More variety or more focus?
Anyway, comment is now open and free.
We’re hoping to buy a Morris Minor as soon as the weather improves and would like somewhere dry to keep it in Strathbungo. Does anyone have a bit of garage space they could rent us for a modest sum over the next year?

I’m thinking of trying to organise a Lights Out Night in Queens Park. This would be of the nature whereby as many people as possible come out to hang out together in the park on an evening with the dual themes of saving on home energy and generating a more positive impression of the park.
Local cafe’s providing food, some acoustic music/spoken word, bicylce powered cinema, lantern making that type of thing. I will be talking to the South Side Transition group and local cafe owners among others to see who is interested in making this happen. I wonder what the society would think about bringing to the table? One option mooted is to go for this on the 10th October to coincide with the International Day of Doing on Carbon Reduction.
Look forward to hearing any thoughts/ideas/input from anyone. Best Wishes

Just wanted say how sorry I am that you were treated unfairly regarding the licence for this year’s beer tent. As a resident of Marywood Square, I would like to help out in any way I can for next year. I am a retired policewoman and although the laws have changed somewhat since my day, I wondered if it would help if we set up stewarding of some sort? I would be happy to be a ‘steward’ for the day! I’m sure you’ll keep us updated by newsletter, but just want you know that you have my support. Other neighbours feel the same. It was still a wonderful day.
