Ever wondered what goes on under the jagged yellow roof on the horizon? Scottish Ballet have started to provide live streams of their practice sessions. It makes fascinating viewing, even for complete novices to the subject like me. Plus you get a sneak preview of their upcoming performances. At the moment they’re rehearsing Alice. Strathbungo has been fortunate in recent months, with many shops and businesses which had been empty for some time being taken over by new tenants. However, there are still one or two empty frontages – none more prominent than the former site of Park Gallery on the corner of Pollokshaws Rd and Torrisdale St.
There’s a great range of shops locally but what do you think is missing? If you could have any shop on your doorstep, what would it be? I’d love to see a craft shop or haberdashers open up here – the back room could even be used by craft groups. Who knows, maybe someone will see a business opportunity in the making!
Many thanks to the eager volunteers who came along to the Brighter Bungo clean up on Saturday. In just a couple of hours 15 volunteers managed to clean up litter and other rubbish from Nithsdale Road, Moray Place and the back lanes between Nithsdale Road and Marywood Square.
As you can see from the pictures of the skip, not only did we fill several bin bags with general waste, the pickers also discovered abandoned coats, tables, several Christmas trees and wheel hubs! The recent storms had exacerbated the litter problem so the tidy up was much needed.
We hope you’ve noticed the difference as you’ve walked around the area this weekend. Clean ups are held quarterly and the more volunteers we have, the more of the area we can clean. Gloves, litter pickers, vests and bin bags are all provided for us by Ryan from the Council and taking part in regular clean ups means we’re given priority when we need fly-tipping lifted or graffiti removed from buildings.

The rules and entry forms for this year’s children’s art competition are now available to download from the website, or you can pick one up at any of the local businesses that will be displaying the winning artworks this year – Tapa, Grianach, Gusto and Relish and Mulberry Street.
The theme is Life In Strathbungo and all children under 16 can enter. As you can see from this picture of last year’s winning entries, the competition is fierce. We had 90 entrants competiong for 2010’s prizes and this year we’re aiming for more than 100!
Winners will be announced at our annual Spring Fling event. Good luck!
Lady Drawers on Nithsdale Road will be opening until 8:30pm on Thursday nights. It’s a great place to pick up last-minute Christmas gifts or a new outfit for yet another Christmas party and, as it’s so handy, you can venture there on foot in the worst of the weather

A few of the local shops on Kildrostan St are hosting their annual Christmas shopping evening tonight. Marie Brown At Home, Eve Boutique and Floral Haven will all be opening late to host a festive evening. There’s usually mulled wine and mince pies on offer and it’s a good opportunity to browse the new Christmas stock – they’ve all been frantically updating window displays and restocking with festive goodies! The event kicks off at 6pm and should be good fun and a great opportunity to support local businesses. It would be nice, in future years, to see a return to the bigger event that used to take place with carol singers and more local shops and businesses taking part.
