What did the Romans ever do for us?

Who ever you voted for and what ever reason you voted for them, our elected officials are mandated to represent our views in London and Edinburgh. Theyworkforyou is a website which allows you to keep track of your elected officials (just type in your postcode) and to contact them if you like. Are they representing your views or are they simply reflecting their party’s views. You can read the debates they’ve taken part in, see how they voted, sign up for an email alert, and more. Elected officials love correspondence so never hesitate to contact them if you think they should be doing more for you or are not reflecting your interests.

If there is sufficient interest in this I can add it as an RSS feed in the left hand column. Vote by clicking the ‘like button’.

Fix My Street

I came across Fix My Street a couple of months ago and love it. The site invites residents to report problems on their street and neighbourhood to the council. I thought it might be an easy way of reporting issues in Strathbungo without the effort of calling – and being put in an endless queue (“All our operators are busy right now, but your call is important to us…..”!).

Admittedly Glasgow City Council is probably overrun with requests and complaints right now, but in future it would be a good way to contact the council about problems in Strathbungo for which they are responsible. Do let us know how you get on.

Strathbungo Christmas Party

Join us for the Strathbungo Christmas Party on Tuesday 14th December at 7.30 in Grianach on Nithsdale Road. It’s a great way to meet some of your friends and neighbours, and the regulars will be there so you can let us know what you think about the new website. Diana and Haydn will be putting on a spread, and the party is bring-your-own-bottle.

Bungo Blog Survey Results

We now have the Bungo Blog survey results in which we have posted in the section on the Strathbungo Society above. There was a reasonable response to the survey (28 people) and there were some good ideas emerging which we have attempted to incorporate into the refreshed Bungo Blog. In short people wanted to see the blog updated much more often than it currently is and people wanted it to be much more user friendly (which we have tried to do).

There were good ideas for new sections (book and running clubs, forum), an events calendar and feeds from other sites (South Side Happenings, weather, flickr) all of which we have included.

There were no shortage of good ideas for the blog most of which were eminently doable. To be honest the main constraint is the shortage of people to write for the blog and to keep it alive. So please do keep sending us your ideas but most of all please do volunteer to write for the blog as well as post stuff yourself regularly.

Many thanks to those who responded.

Jonathan
