Between the 24th August and 4th September a team from Archaeology Scotland and the University of Glasgow will be investigating the Queens Park Earthwork, an enigmatic monument at the summit of Queens Park hill in Glasgow’s Southside. The site has been investigated twice before, in the 1860s and 1950s with limited success, the team behind the most recent excavations hope that with new techniques, a larger team, and support from the community they will finally unravel the monuments secrets.
The excavations are being directed by Prof Kenny Brophy, Dr Edward Stewart and Kieran Manchip and will involve students from the University of Glasgow and local high schools, and members of the local community in the southside.
There will be an open day for the project on the 29th August at the Camphill Earthwork (among the trees west of the flagpole in Queens Park) running from 11-3, and drop in site tours every day (except Sunday 30th) from 10-3. Pop along to find out what they uncover!
