I’ve heard that the care home on Titwood Road may be closing next year. Anyone know if this is correct and what the council are going to do with the site?
A concerned neighbour flagged it up.

We are honoured to have as our special guest the well-known artist Avril Paton, who has made Glasgow tenements famous around the world. She will be giving an illustrated talk on, among other things, how she turned our Gardens into a work of art in her much-loved painting, The Allotments (1993). She was at our open day in August and it will be interesting to see what she makes of the Gardens 20 years on!
We will also be showcasing the talents of other artists in various media who have been inspired by New Victoria Gardens:
(post quoted from Facebook, by Laura Moodie?)
Hi
Does anyone know who owns the Siamese cat that seems to live in the back lane between Queen and Marywood Square? Seems to be mainly around the 30s and 40s of the streets. Description below.
It’s been appearing at my back door fairly regularly for a few months, and having very loud, very vocal “discussions” with one of my cats. (If anyone has heard the “discussions” you’ll know how loud they are!)
The cat seems to be out at all hours and all weathers, and I just wondered if it is in fact owned, or if it’s a stray. I’d love to hear from the owner, or anyone who might know them.
Description: the Siamese is a fairly large, but quite skinny cat with soft brown head, vivid pale blue eyes and a very light cream front that shades to soft brown at its back, with soft brown legs and tail. It is a bit wary of people but not really shy.
Thanks!

We’re looking for donations for the raffle please!
And we’re looking for donations which are a bit special.
As well as the usual bottles etc. (all very gratefully received), we’re looking for the donations of time from the very talented Strathbungo people!
Do you have a skill we could raffle? For example, we already have a music lesson, a weekend away and an IT Healthcheck to raffle and we’re looking for more of that ilk.
Are you a dressmaker who could raffle some time to make a simple outfit for someone? Are you an animal portrait artist who could raffle some time to sketch a loved pet?
Are you a gardener who could raffle some time to do a bit of a tidy up in time for winter?
You get it now!!
OR
Do you have something vintage in fab condition you no longer love that you could donate?
Or any photographers/artists/sculptors out there who could donate a framed picture or piece of art?
Anything really.
All donations will be considered!
Thanks in anticipation

This Sunday (15th September) will see the next Brighter Bungo community cleanup. We’ll be at the corner of Nithsdale Road and Moray Place between 11am and 1pm, so please pop along anytime. Litter pickers, gloves, black bags and high-visibility vests are provided; just bring yourself.
The newsletter is ready, but Andrew desperately needs more people to help deliver it. It’s a relatively easy job that only comes four times a year, so why not step up? When there’s someone for each street, it’s quick and easy. However, when a few people have to do all the work, it’s really hard on them. Lately, Andrew and Stephen have been going above and beyond, handling many of the streets themselves.
Here are the routes that need people for newsletter delivery:
It would also make a certain amount of sense to deliver to Nithsdale Drive and to Pollokshaws Road between Allison and Calder, if anyone is willing to take that on. Not everyone is able to read the newsletter or find out about community events online, and that’s why newsletter delivery is still important.
If you’ve got half an hour four times a year to help deliver the newsletter, then contact Andrew at adownie (at) doctors (dot) org (dot) uk. He’d love to hear from you!
Just as a reminder, the Strathbungo Society is an all-volunteer community organisation, not a business or even a social enterprise.
Just a heads-up to all the cheesecake lovers out there: the Lovestruck Cheesecake Cafe opens officially tomorrow, Tuesday, September 2nd. They’re down the block from Shimla Pink’s, in the spot where the candy shop used to be.
There’ll be art photography on the walls, hand painted tables and locally roasted Dear Green coffee. I’ve tried the cheesecakes, and they are really nice. The creative flavours, like rosemary-lemon and spicy chocolate, are especially good. These are real, baked mini-cheescakes; no Philly cream cheese shortcuts. They’re a nice size, too. Not too big and not too small. Try them out and see what you think.
