We are honoured to have as our special guest the well-known artist Avril Paton, who has made Glasgow tenements famous around the world. She will be giving an illustrated talk on, among other things, how she turned our Gardens into a work of art in her much-loved painting, The Allotments (1993). She was at our open day in August and it will be interesting to see what she makes of the Gardens 20 years on!
We will also be showcasing the talents of other artists in various media who have been inspired by New Victoria Gardens:
- Photographs by Roy MacGregor, who has documented the flora and fauna of the 2013 growing season.
- Water colours and drawings by Dorothy Allan, an eclectic mix exploring themes of nature, flowers and plant-life.
- /Vivarium/by Nic Green, an audio-visual installation at NVG which was part of the Albert Drive project at the Tramway. A chance to relive the experience through the magic of video.
- Paintings and drawings from the Maxwell Painting Group, a lively bunch of professionals and gifted amateurs who often set up their easels at the Gardens.
