Hi
We are looking for recommendations for companies that people may have used to repair/draught proof sash and case windows. We are on Pollokshaws Road facing road/park and the draught/noise/dust is getting worse. With a baby on the way it’s something we need to look at.
Looking for a reasonably priced company if poss…

totally recommend http://www.gtwindows.com/ – chap called Mark who did a great job with ours. Not a peep through them during those howling winds the other week.
We got ours done a couple of years ago with a 50% grant from GCHT. They also provided lots of good advice and recommended companies to get quotes from. We had to wait about 9 months for the grant but we’re really pleased with the refurbishment. Go to http://www.glasgowheritage.co.uk for more info and an application form.
We used Restoration Carpentry who were the cheapest and friendliest of the 3 companies we got quotes from. What I liked was that they made the most of the sound existing wood and replaced where necessary. The best thing was that they also got double glazed wooden sash units made to fit our existing window surrounds. This meant that we could keep the window shutters. None of the other companies we looked at could do that without lots of fiddling and re-working. We opted for a low-cost version where we decided to do the paint finishes ourselves to keep the cost down – they’re very flexible like that. The cost came in at £750ish per window. charlie@restorationcarpentry.co.uk You’re welcome to come and have a look.
I agree above with Papa Roni, Mark from Glasgow Traditional Windows is not only friendly but he knows his stuff and his speciality of doing ‘secret’ double-glazing in listed buildings is something that he’s been doing longer than anyone else. And his prices, compared to some of the cowboys trying to copy him, are far better. Definitely recommended.
