hedges

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew how to organise hedge cutting? Our downstairs neighbours used to organise it but have moved and the hedges are now quite overgrown!

Thanks,

Jen

Neighbour’s cat is missing…

Missing Cat

My name is Pixie and I’ve been missing since Sunday 10th July and my family are really missing me. I’m a tortoiseshell and quite small for my age and was last seen wearing a red collar. I am also chipped.

My best buddy Jasper who’s a big ginger guy is looking all over the house for me, but can’t find me – please look in your outbuildings and sheds to see if I’m stuck in somewhere I shouldn’t be.

If you see me, please don’t hesitate to call my mum and dad on:

Bring on the BUNGOfest

Just back from tonight’s exciting planning meeting about the return of a Bungo arts festival.

The Society is working in conjunction with the Arches to put on a day of performances from a whole host of artists – magicians to storytellers, poets and musicians.

The event will take place on Saturday 8th October and we’ll be speaking to local cafes, bars and shops over the next two weeks so they can be used as venues. We’ll keep the Blog posted with updates but it sounds like being a really great one-day arts festival on your doorstep. Let us know if you’d like to get involved with planning, helping out on the day or performing.

Cat

Hi there,  if anyone in the Strathbungo area is missing a black female cat with purple/diamonte studded collar, can you please contact Elaine at 423 2741 or Magge at 423 0566.

Thanks.

Famous Strathbungo Residents

A friend recently suggested that we do a series of posts on previous (and current) residents of Strathbungo which I thought was an excellent idea. He suggested that we have Alexander (Greek) Thomson, Charles Rennie MacKintosh, Ivor Cutler, H E Clifford, Gavin Stamp and Helena Kennedy – each of whom we could do a short profile on and note their connection to Strathbungo. Rather than me write up the posts I suggest that others write something and post to the blog (or I can do it if you are not technically minded). So if you know of any famous previous residents of Strathbungo and particularly of your house/apartment do write up something for the blog. Alternatively if you have the names of other famous Strathbungo residents but don’t want to write anything, do drop me a line (or leave a comment to this post) saying who they are and when they were here.

Get Off Your Artz planning meeting, 11th July, Grianach, 7.30pm

The Strathbungo Society wants to revive ‘Get off your Artz’ for 2011. We see it as a chance to showcase local performance and music artists in the cafes and bars around Strathbungo for a day in the autumn, and we’ll be starting our planning tomorrow night.

Niall Walker, Design and Marketing Manager of The Arches, has offered to give us his huge experience to lead us through this, but as with all our events, they are nothing without you.

We’d love to hear from you if you can sing, play solo or in a band, dance, act, teach a beginners or improvers workshop, inspire kids to try something new, or in fact do anything that can happen in our local venues. With such a range of venues, we can have kid-friendly performances and workshops in the cafes in the daytime, through to music, comedy and performance art in bars through the evening. You don’t have to commit now, but it would be great to have a list of supporters. Why not ask your friends, family, neighbours, work colleagues what they can offer too?

Lastly, we will, as ever, need help and support in organising this event. If you can spare an hour tomorrow night to help us get this off the ground, please join us in Grianach on Nithsdale Road at 7.30pm with your ideas and shape what we hope will be an amazing day to look forward to.

Hope to see you there!

Brighter Bungo July 3rd

Thanks to everyone who turned out on Sunday morning to help clean our back lanes, despite a no-show from the previously very supportive Clean Glasgow initiative of the Council. As ever, we could have done so much more with a few extra volunteers, but with just nine of us in two hours we did our best, covering the three lanes amongst the squares. We were able to clear a lot of bulk, such as the top left picture in the Queen Square / Regent Park Square lane, then a litter sweep. The resultant pile of cleared rubbish showed the work that went in.

Laura has organised several of these clear-ups, and each time we make a huge difference. However, the area we can cover is always limited by the number of people – perhaps next time, you too could help, then we can cover more of the lanes, and the Moray Place verge as well?

SELLING ON OF DONATIONS

Hi , I am the owner of HairGarden at 716 Pollokshaws Road and as you know I have given the Bungo in the lanes a donation for the prize raffle every year, can’t remember how many years but I have never missed one.

Once again this year I donated a £25.00 cut and blow dry voucher and was happy when someone made an appointment to use it. However, during the shampooing the lady said she had bought the voucher from the winner!

I think that a third party making money out of the prizes that businesses donate is plain and simply wrong. I reckon next year I will need to reconsider how I donate to the event.

Just thought I would let you know, I am happy to donate but I dont want it to become a money spinner for third parties.

Oh it was green 780 that won my donation.

Regards

Kenny

Brighter Bungo Clear Up This Sunday

Time to dig out your scruff and join in with one of our regular community clean ups.

The City Council will be on hand to provide a skip, litter-pickers, gloves and bin bags – now we just need volunteers. We’ll be meeting outside Sammy Dow’s from 11am on Sunday 3rd July and will be cleaning up the back lanes and anywhere else volunteers think needs a bit of a spruce up. A number of our usual clean-up volunteers are on holiday so if you can spare even half an hour it would be greatly appreciated!

Dress for the weather and the cobbles.

Twas The Night Before Bungo…

Looks like it’ll be a wellies and raincoat BitBL this year but the forecast hints that the rain might dry up during the afternoon. Come prepared and always know where your nearest gazebo is!

Thanks to mystery Ian who gave us a mention on Fred Macaulay’s show this morning and Southside Happenings for their online support. Fingers crossed for a great turnout despite the weather.

For the hardy, set up starts at 10am come rain or shine. We’d still like volunteers for taking things down at the end too.

See you tomorrow – I’m off to make salads for the veggie cafe!
