Dear all,
Following the successful clean up of litter and flytipping from many of the lanes on 20th Sept, Brighter Bungo, together with the Strathbungo Society are keen to help reduce the amount of litter in the lanes by also keeping the weeds down. In order to do this efficiently, a petrol powered strimmer/brush cutter would be ideal for volunteers to use. If anyone has one they would be willing to donate or sell to us, we would be very keen to hear from you.
Many thanks,
Scott Mackay

Hi
Ive been applying environmentally safe weedkiller that’s stable as soon as it dries, ie within 1 min, for 4yrs. Someone else (Council?) applies a stronger, poss. licensable product that may not be safe for people/animals to come into contact with.
Re; Use of a petrol strimmer; I have on occasion, only when far from people/cars, used a petriol strimmer to tidy up Queens Sq back lane, however; the area is full of gravel. Petrol machines can throw up stones at well over 100mph; If they go over a wall/fence or through foliage you can smash lower windows or take someone’s eye out; Electric 18v trimmer or manual shears & use of weedkiller is more responsible.
It’s great to to help keep the place clean & tidy, but Ive already lifted at least one “Its YOUR area too” laminated signs off the pavement… Ironic littering. Loads of people are silently doing their share to keep Strathbungo tidy. I am a Gardener. I’d happily consider lending any of my equipment /protective faceguard, sprayer etc. to the cause provided it’s used responsibly. Call me after 7pm; Number’s on Somegardener van 🙂
