June Newsletter at printer’s

Strathbungo Newsletter June 2014 -coverThe June Strathbungo Newsletter has just gone out to the printer’s. It features the Community Art Contest Winners, Bungo in the Back Lanes and a story on architectural conservation by Fiona MacKinnon.  Fiona, I owe you an apology. Your name is missing from the back page of the print version – so sorry about that, I noticed it a day after sending it to the printer – but I’ve corrected the oversight on the electronic version.

Just click on the cover to download the pdf.

Also..

The Brighter Bungo litter clean-up is this Sunday, June 15th at 11:00 am.

It’s in the newsletter, but unfortunately, it won’t be printed and distibuted in time to let everyone know.

There’s also a handy BITBL map in the newsletter. It includes numbered lanes and a list of the stuff (that we know about) planned for the day. Of course, there will be more going on. It’s left up to neighbourhood residents to put together whatever they think will be fun, useful, thought provoking, artistic, profitable, or whatever. The Strathbungo Society creates space for Bungo in the Back Lanes by jumping through the regulatory hoops – but we don’t micromanage it.

Bungo In The Back Lanes Does Games

Revellers at this year’s event will see a variety of games and sports taking place in the lanes and gardens of Strathbungo, as Bungo In The Back Lanes shows its support for Glasgow’s upcoming Commonwealth Games. With activities ranging from sack races and yoga to croquet and football, there should be something for everyone.

Famous for its residents’ stalls selling everything from bric-a-brac and jewellery to homemade food and crafts, Bungo In The Back Lanes is expanding this year and will now take place in the gardens and lanes between Nithsdale Road and Thorncliffe Gardens.

Other features to look out for include: Glad Café Garden; Play in a Shed; New Victoria Allotments plant sale; Babu Bombay Street Kitchen; Merry Go Round’s Childrens Garden with bouncy castle; Sport Glasgow’s coaching sessions; Mr Thompson’s Tea Garden; plus the beer gardens and live music from local bands.

Brighter Bungo, Sunday 15th June, 11am-1pm

In preparation for Bungo in the Back Lanes, we will be having a Brighter Bungo community cleanup this Sunday (15th June). We’ll be at the corner of Moray Place/Nithsdale Road from 11am to 1pm. Pop along any time and we will provide litter pickers, black bags and gloves to help get the lanes into shape for the big day.

BITBL 2014 – 21st June – Bring it on!

If its not already in your diary a timely reminder that Saturday 21st June 2014 the place to be is the annual Bungo in the Back Lanes held between 1-4pm, in the back lanes between Nithsdale Road and Vennard Gardens in Strathbungo. A warm welcome (if not dry!) will be extended to you all.

Full details of the day will be updated at www.bungoblog.com

Fancy helping put on Glasgow’s “best local community event”? The Strathbungo Society is always looking for extra volunteers on the big day to help us get things ready and pack things up.

Victims of the success of the event, we’ve found ourselves with a smaller volunteer pool than ever this year because everyone wants to enjoy the day and set up their own stall. Sound familiar? You can help before and after the event doing any of the following:

•Putting up (and later taking down) gazebos, moving tables and chairs, putting out A Frames etc: Meet at 9.30am on Saturday at 26 Marywood Square or follow the noise in the back lanes. For packing up, come to the Society stall at 4pm.
•Baking: We’d love donations of home baking for our tea garden on Marywood and Queen Lane. Just drop it off on the day.
•Prizes: We’re taking donations of prizes for the tombola, bottle stall and raffle. Drop them off at 53 Queen Sq or send an e-mail to chair@strathbungo.com if you want them picked up
•Making space: Not holding a stall yourself? We have several stall holders looking for a pitch. They will squeeze in wherever they can on the day but if you’ve got a great garden or yard you think could be used by someone else, get in touch and we can send them your way. Contact bungointhelanes@outlook.com

We look forward to seeing you all on the day.

Spring Fling – baking and raffle prizes needed!

plated

This is a call out to anyone who may wish to  donate home baking and raffle prizes for this year’s Spring Fling on Saturday March 29th. It would be great if people were able to find some small items suitable for the raffle and bake any cakes, biscuits or any other sweet treats. All the events organised by the Strathbungo Society rely on the kindness of people willing to donate and we really do appreciate anything local residents are able to do.

Please email chair@strathbungo.co.uk to arrange delivery and collection of prizes and baking.
