The next Brighter Bungo clean up will take place from 10.30am on Saturday 8th September 2012, meeting at the junction of Moray Place and Nithsdale Road.
Volunteers are given high-visibility vests, bin bags, gloves and litter pickers and encouraged to clean up litter and fly-tipped rubbish from the area’s streets and back lanes. GCSS, Clean Glasgow campaign provides the equipment and removes the collected waste, this time from two different collection areas in Strathbungo.
It’s a great hands-on way to improve the area we live in and a fantastic way to tackle the niggling issues that annoy anyone who lives in a busy, urban area. Looking forward to seeing you all on 8th September!
Can’t wait until next month to sort out those niggles? If you’ve got a smartphone, Glasgow City Council and LES have launched a new phone app to make it easier for people to quickly report issues like missed bin collections, fly-tipping and graffiti. It can be downloaded for free for Apple and Android users.
As well as asking the Council to help, there’s always more residents can do to help keep the area tidy. If you have bulk items the council takes weeks to collect them, far better if you have transport to take bulk items to the recycling centre yourself. Polmadie depot has been recently revamped, is less than ten minutes away by car and it is much quicker to DIY than wait for the Council!
And it might be stating the obvious but one way to avoid the bin men leaving emptied bins in rows at the end of the lanes is to make sure both your bins and back gate are clearly numbered so they can be put back outside their rightful home.
