ATTENTION RESIDENT OR LANDLORD!

Did you miss the consultation meeting on the proposed closure of Nithsdale Road from the roundabout at the New Anand to the dead end at Pollokshaws Road held on Tues 18th February 2014?

——————————————

A Temporary Traffic Order

is proposed for closure of this part of Nithsdale Road from 4pm on Friday 20th June 2014 to 10pm on Saturday 21st June 2014.  During this time all cars, vans, trailers, boats etc will be unable to park on this part of Nithsdale Road.

Alternative parking can be found by turning left onto Darnley Road after Susie’s Store

——————————————–

We think the benefit to the whole community of participating in a unique celebration of the Commonwealth Games outweighs this temporary inconvenience

There is still time for you to have your say on this proposal !

PLEASE let us know if you have any objections or may be unable or unwilling to move your vehicle/s during this time in June – we would welcome the opportunity to help you with any concerns.

I have walking difficulty and need my car at my close what’s supposed to happen to my car when the road is closed

  2. Jonathan

Im happy to support this endeavour, for one day I think it is a great idea and will be a big boost to the community on Nithsdale Road. I do however appreciate there needs to be consideration to those on the street who are not as ambulant.

I hear that this event is to replace Strathbungo In The Lanes, a community based event in the lanes and gardens of Strathbungo. Why?
I hear the Pubs in Nithsdale Road are in favour of this as it will boost trade for them and the Strathbungo Society’s 10% take, all at the inconvenience of the residents of Nithsdale Road.Keep this event in the lanes and gardens.Residents of Nithsdale Road already have to put up with our culdersac being closed off during the four road races that are held annually, now the small number of new Society members want to use our street to make money for their Society causes which will certainly not be spent in our street. It’s the people of Strathbungo that make the community event a success.
I see that your Society has not even applied for a Temporary Road Closure yet. When it has I will object to it.

What a weird, negative take on the event. First, it’s not replacing Bungo at the Back Lanes. It’s simply happening on the same day. Second, why would you think that anyone is focused on money? Society money is not used for anything except community events. Society members are working for free to make those events happen. If you want to get involved in the decision making process, then why not attend society meetings? These events actually take a lot of work to organise and execute, and all of it’s unpaid work by community volunteers. The Strathbungo Society isn’t some kind of official authority that you’re paying for through your taxes. It’s just people who live in the neighbourhood and who are working hard to make it a nice place to live. It’s fine to disagree about the best types of events to have and about the details of how to organise them. If you’re willing to put in the time and effort to get involved, you can influence that sort of thing. There was even a public consultation on the games idea. You could have had your say at that, too.

Why do you think the community of Nithsdale Road needs a boost?Do you really think by having the inconvenience of having to remove 80 to 100 cars to make way for a bouncy castle and a merry go round is going to be a, quote “big boost”for our Nithsdale community! As a resident of Nithsdale Road for 14 yrs I am all in favour of community base events and the promotion and improvement of an area but really there are better ways of doing it.

Could the Chair explain why 25th Feb dead line? Dead line for who and why!

  6. Deidre Miller

What are your ideas for community based events, promoting the area and improving the area, Andrew?

Hi-just received the news of the games on nithsdale rd, and subsequent road closure etc. This is a weird one. There is a lovely, spacious park across from Strathbungo. I would have thought that Queens park would be an ideal venue for this type of event. I am a Strathbungo resident and feel that Nithsdale Rd is not an appropriate place to hold this type of occasion, especially where there are children involved. It is overun with licensed premises where smokers continually gather; near a main traffic artery; and is also rather grubby and unkempt, with dirty, oily gutters, litter and dog mess. Plus, I have heard in the past there was an attempted clean up of the road but even the council couldn’t stop residents and visitors parking there.
