“My wife and I have discovered that an ancestor of mine James and Euphemia Wilson had a daughter Mary born in the Toll House, Strathbungo in 1867, a son James age 2 died there in the same year cause of death was written as “burning from soup 20 days”. Another daughter Jeanie was born at Stobbs Land, Strathbungo in 1868. On the 1871 census the family was still living at Stobbs Land and Euphemia was listed as a toll keeper. Can you tell me anything about a toll house in Strathbungo or Stobbs Land?

I was interested to read this blog from 2007 as I too am related to this family. Euphemia Wilson was my great great grandmother – her son Thomas was my grandmother’s (Annie) father. Are there any other relatives still in this area?

Hi Fiona,
James and Euphemia in my family did have a son Thomas born 24 Jan 1856 in Pollokshaws. He married Annie Craig on 31 Dec 1886 in Pollokshaws. They had a daughter Annie born abt 1900 in Pollokshaws. Thomas is my 2nd great uncle. His younger brother Hugh born 1862 is my great grandfather.
