And another Arnold Clark development

Details of the first suggestions for the fate of Arnold Clark’s maintenance site on Nithsdale Drive have appeared.

Arnold Clark are working with Page\Park Architects, and have opened a consultation on their initial proposals. You can see the full details on the Page\Park website.

There is a survey you can complete, and Zoom consultations on 30th March and 27th April.

Much more thought appears to have gone into this AC proposal, with deliberate attempts to take inspiration from the neighbourhood & architecture of the conservation areas. The proposed building is somewhat higher than opposite neighbours, but (a) not by a huge amount, (b) they have drawn a matching line across at the height of those opposite – a neat touch – & (c) there are no northern neighbours whose light would be blocked by the building.

Note that this proposal contains 100% parking provision. Only 50% of households in Glasgow have access to a car and this location has particularly good public transport and cycling links (latter will be true by the time construction is completed).

Also their consultation email address is presently broken.

Apparently the 100% parking level is a Glasgow City Council requirement even though it doesn’t align with GCC’s policies.

Looks promising? Excellent architectural practice in the form of Page & Park, and a ‘progressive’ client (Arnold Clark, among other things, was a long term benefactor of the Glasgow Citizens Theatre), and the prospect of the Alexander Greek Thomson style influence couldn’t be more appropriate for the Glasgow south side.
